Best CV Formatting Software for Recruiters in 2026

An honest shortlist of CV formatting software for recruitment agencies, comparing price, review controls, redaction and integrations as of October 2026.

There is no single best CV formatting software. The right tool depends on how many CVs you send a month, which ATS or CRM you live in, how fussy your clients are about layout, and how much you trust an AI's first draft. This guide is a shortlist organised by fit, not a league table.

A declaration first: we make CVPitch, so read our section with that in mind. We have tried to be fair. Competitor details come from vendors' public pages (checked on 9 October 2026) and from free accounts we opened on 10 October 2026, using synthetic CVs only. Where we only read a public page, we say so. We did not measure accuracy across tools: a single test file cannot rank anyone, and nobody should publish a percentage based on one.

How we judged the tools

We looked at the things that decide whether a formatter saves time or just moves the work around:

  • Pricing unit and transparency. Per CV, per export, per candidate, per seat or a quote? Is the price on the website?
  • Review controls. Can a recruiter see where each fact came from before the CV goes to a client?
  • Contact removal. Which details can you remove, and does removal reach headers, footers and hidden document metadata?
  • Output. Editable Word plus PDF, or PDF only? Do both files come from the same version?
  • Templates. A fixed gallery, configurable variants, or a rebuild of your existing Word template?
  • Integrations. Native ATS connectors, an API, webhooks, or connectors for AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT?
  • Trial access. Could we get to a real result without a sales call?

Quick comparison

Prices are as published in October 2026 and in each vendor's own currency. Units differ, so read the column carefully before comparing.

Which tool fits which agency

If price per CV decides it

RefineCV's $50 for 200 CVs and ConnectIQ's £15 for 100 were the lowest published subscription prices we found. CVPitch works out at about $0.20 per CV on Agency ($99 for 500), $0.25 on Pro and $0.38 on Starter. FormaCV publishes $0.99 per formatted CV, and Candidately $1 per exported resume. Compare like with like: CVPitch counts one approved CV as a matching DOCX + PDF pair, and re-downloads are free.

If every fact must be checked before it leaves

This is where CVPitch is built to be strongest. Each employer, date, qualification and skill links to the exact passage in the original CV, uncertain items are flagged, and approval is tied to the exact revision, client template and contact-removal settings. Edit anything afterwards and it needs approving again. ConnectIQ also advertises field-to-page highlights, and RemakeCV advertises a comparison that highlights omitted source text, so test those side by side if this matters to you.

If your agency runs on Bullhorn or JobAdder

Allsorter advertises Bullhorn, Salesforce and JobAdder integrations. JobAdder's marketplace lists CVFormatter, HireAra and RemakeCV. Candidately advertises export back to Bullhorn. CVPitch's Bullhorn and JobAdder connectors are waiting on those vendors' partner approval, so today you would connect it through its REST API, signed webhooks or Zapier, Make and n8n. If you use Greenhouse, Lever, Workable, Ashby, Teamtailor, Recruitee, SmartRecruiters, Recruit CRM or Crelate, CVPitch has a native connector that imports CVs and attaches approved files back. See integrations.

If you want more than a formatted CV

Formatix shows Word, PowerPoint and Excel templates, including a shortlist deck. Candidately advertises client portals and a talent marketplace. HireAra's higher tiers add candidate websites. CVPitch's extras are built from approved CVs only: shortlists exported as PowerPoint, Excel or JSON, shortlist links with web profiles, client engagement reporting and an opt-in talent page of anonymised, consented profiles.

If you want an inbox workflow

Distill advertises formatted Word and PDF replies by email. CV-Transformer advertises organisation inboxes. CVPitch gives each workspace a private intake address: forward a CV, get review links back, and optionally receive the final files once a recruiter has approved them.

If you want to work from Claude or ChatGPT

CVPitch has a remote MCP server at https://cvpitch.app/mcp, so Claude and ChatGPT can list submissions, check status and export already-approved CVs, but never approve. FormaCV publishes an MCP package and Formatix advertises connecting Claude through MCP, so this is not exclusive to us. Read our MCP guide.

If you need your existing Word template cloned exactly

RemakeCV advertises rebuilding your Word template, RefineCV offers a free custom template build, and CV-Transformer advertises a layout designer. CVPitch takes a different route: you add simple placeholder tags to your own Word template and upload it, or use client variants with five layouts, branding, logo, section order, headings, required sections, page limits and an optional coversheet. Nobody rebuilds the template for you.

Where CVPitch fits, honestly

Choose CVPitch if you want transparent public pricing with unlimited users, evidence beside every fact, contact removal that also clears hidden document metadata, and a job match that marks each requirement as evidenced, partly evidenced or not shown with the CV passage beside it. It also reads scans and photos by OCR, offers AI writing as reviewed proposals, connects natively to several ATSs, and includes bulk upload, email intake and tracked client share links; other vendors offer some of those too.

Look elsewhere if you need a vendor to rebuild a complex Word template for you, a native Bullhorn, JobAdder or Salesforce connector today, or a visual layout designer. CVPitch is also a newer product, and its ATS connectors are new, so ask us anything you would ask an established vendor.

Plans and the per-CV maths are on the pricing page, and the free trial gives you 10 exports and 25 AI credits with no card. For head-to-head detail, see CVPitch vs RefineCV, CVPitch vs Candidately, CVPitch vs Distill and Allsorter alternatives. If you are still formatting in Word by hand, start with CVPitch vs manual Word formatting.

Also in the market (not tested by us)

These names came up in our research or in search results. We have not tested them and only repeat what their own sites say:

  • iReformat (Recruiteze): its site advertises volume-based pricing, unlimited users and bulk processing.
  • CVReady: its site lists $0.95 per successfully processed CV without a subscription.
  • Daxtra Styler: an enterprise house-style and redaction product sold through a demo route.
  • Tlntly: its site shows per-seat plans combining CV and vacancy tailoring.
  • RapidRecruit, Giig Hire and Saply.ai: also in the market; we have not reviewed them.
  • ATS-native formatting: Bullhorn's own documentation describes reformatting a CV from the candidate record, which can be enough for some agencies.

Run your own bake-off

Marketing pages all sound alike. Before you commit, put five synthetic or permitted CVs through your top two or three tools:

  1. A degree marked "withdrawn" or "not awarded".
  2. A role with a missing end date.
  3. Contact details in the header, the footer and the document properties.
  4. A two-column CV with a skills table.
  5. A long contractor history with overlapping roles.

Time the whole job from upload to a file you would send, count corrections, and open the DOCX in Word to check page breaks and metadata. Our hands-on test write-up and guide to AI formatting accuracy explain what to look for.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best CV formatting software for a small agency?

It depends on volume and integrations. A small agency sending 30 to 50 CVs a month with no strict ATS requirement will usually be well served by a low, published price with unlimited users. CVPitch Starter is $19 for 50 exports; RefineCV and ConnectIQ also publish low prices. Run the same five test CVs through each.

Is AI CV formatting accurate enough to send without checking?

No tool we know of should be trusted blind. AI can drop a qualifier such as "degree not awarded" or attach the wrong date. CVPitch shows the source passage for every fact and blocks export until a recruiter approves the exact revision.

Which CV formatting tools work with Claude or ChatGPT?

CVPitch offers a remote MCP connector for Claude and ChatGPT. FormaCV and Formatix also advertise MCP support. Check what an assistant is allowed to do; CVPitch's connector can never approve a submission.

Do I need a native ATS integration?

Not always. Many agencies download the approved DOCX and PDF and attach them to the ATS record. CVPitch has native connectors for several ATSs, and for others its API, webhooks and Zapier, Make or n8n recipes cover most workflows; see CVPitch features.

Competitor details reflect public pages and free-account testing on 9–10 October 2026. Features and prices change often, so check each vendor's own site before you decide.
